The adventures of Odontellina

The sixth submission to our Cold Regions-Cool Facts contest was made by Jasmin Stimpfle and Emilia Sinkeviciute.
They wrote and illustrated a wonderful and educational short story for kids, called: “Die Abenteuer von Odontellina – Das Leben einer kleinen Alge im Südpolarmeer“ that explains the role of phytoplankton in the Southern Ocean.
With amazing drawings and simple words they explain how something so small has such a big influence on the ecosystem and even on human’s lives.
Since most people have never heard of phytoplankton, especially not kids, Jasmin and Emilia broke down this very abstract topic to funny analogies to create a first contact to a world that is otherwise hidden from us.
